Jonathan's Experience

Jonathan defends companies, educational institutions, and individuals in a variety of business disputes in state and federal courts. As a federal prosecutor, he represented the government in hundreds of cases, including matters alleging violations of the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, an economic sanctions program administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of Treasury. In total, Jonathan led more than 150 successful federal criminal prosecutions as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida. He now serves as the Fort Lauderdale Office Managing Shareholder at Gunster Law Firm where he is the head of the firm’s white-collar defense and internal investigations practice.

On the civil side, Jonathan has handled a variety of matters in federal and state courts and arbitration. Jonathan often serves as local counsel to national firms with matters pending before state and federal judges in Florida and his clients include educational institutions, companies, and business and community leaders.

Jonathan’s involvement in South Florida’s legal community includes serving as the current President of the Federal Bar Broward Chapter, on the board of the Broward County Bar Association, and as a member of the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission and Federal Magistrate Merit Selection Panel Regarding Magistrate Judge Vacancies in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

  • Served as co-counsel for a public official in a criminal case alleging campaign finance violations (charges dismissed by government after filing of motion to dismiss).
